Mkeka: Woven Mats & Carpets

Woven from palm, made for the floor.

The mkeka is woven from dried palm leaves, plaited into long strips and stitched together into mats and carpets for floors, sitting and prayer. Coloured strips are worked into the weave, so each mkeka carries its own pattern.
